Description:
Hi!  My name is Trixie.  I am a "beaglador"- that is, a beagle and lab mix, and I am around 7 years old.  My owners couldn't keep me anymore and so STAR took me in as one of their own.  I used to live with kids, and I enjoyed it but the really young ones do make me a little uncomfortable as they were really rough with me.  I would prefer if my new home has no kids or older kids who are a little quieter and know how to respect me and be kind to me.

I never lived with dogs before and when I see them out on walks, they make me nervous and I like to bark and make a lot of noise so they know I'm tough, but once I get to sniff them I'm perfectly fine.  My foster mom is working on something called "counterconditioning" with me to help me understand what to do when I see dogs on walks.  I currently live with 6 canine foster brothers and sisters and we all get along very well- I especially love to play with my deaf foster brother and we spend hours every day wrestling, growling, pouncing on each other and playing hide and seek.  I would be happy in a home with or without other dogs, as long as they are not aggressive.

I'm on a diet and exercise plan in my foster home because I'm overweight, and my new family would have to continue with that.  It's hard for me, because I always got to eat whenever I wanted (including people food, yum!) but it's not the best thing for me.  I've already lost weight and I LOVE going for walks, which my last family never had time to do.

I live with cats in my foster home, and grew up with one in my previous home, so I am good with kitties unless they hurt me at which point they make me really uneasy, so please no mean kitties need apply!

I consider myself a really well trained dog, and I'm still learning all the time.  My previous family taught me how to sit, shake, and lay down as a start, and my foster mommy has taught me to stay, leave it, to lay down and wait patiently for my meals (see my pics for a photo of how well I listen!) and to come!  And I am housebroken.  As long as I get out a few times a day to potty I will not have an accident, but if you leave me inside all day long like my previous home I might not be able to help myself- they sometimes had to leave me up to 12 hours at a time.  I don't need crated and can sleep by your bed or with you if you ask me to, but I am content to go in a crate when you leave if there are things around you don't want me to get into.  I do have a beagle nose and the combined appetite of a lab and beagle, so forgive me if I find things you've set on the counter or put in your trash.

*************

Trixie is spayed, up to date on her shots, microchipped, on Frontline, and will be heartworm tested and placed on preventatives prior to placement ina new home.  She has been examined by our vet with a clean bill of health including good teeth and eyes! :)
