Description:
Penny is quite possibly the best dog I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It breaks my heart to know that she must be adopted out. She is sweet, kind, gentle, affectionate, happy, easy going, and full of life and energy.

Penny lost a hind leg thanks to a bad break, but she's doing really well without it. The vet said she stopped using it a long time ago. She runs and plays and wrestles with the other dogs in the house and can even keep up with our Irish setter for the most part. She's on a diet and has already lost several pounds since she entered foster care. Now that she's had her surgery and can run around and play un-hindered, she should be able to get down to the right weight.

Penny is housebroken, knows sit, down, stay, heel, outside, inside, come, and "crate!" She loves her crate and would like to have one available to her in her new home, even if just for her own comfort. She goes in her crate here if she's tired or when it's time to eat. We have had success leaving her un-crated in our house but there must not be anything she can harm herself on. She is still a young dog and loves to chew or have things in her mouth. So far she's never destroyed anything in our house and has never played with anything we haven't given to her, though.

Penny has such a stellar temperament and wonderful personality that everyone who has ever met her has fallen in love with her. She's never gone anywhere without drawing attention because of her beauty and the obviously happy gleam in her eyes. With a smile, she cuddles up to any person and politely asks for attention. We think that Penny would make an EXCELLENT candidate for canine therapy. She can bring a smile to anyone's face! We will give PRIORITY to a home who wishes to work with Penny in this capacity. While in foster care, we are working very hard to prepare her for Canine Good Citizen and TDI testing and if she is still with us in June, she will be tested and certified as a Therapy Dog. We'd love to see another family step in and work with her, though, to develop the bond that makes for a perfect therapy team. With minimal work, this dog can be a working companion.
